I grew up in Stone Mountain and attended UGA from 1979-1983. During that time, God used Watkinsville First Baptist Church (WFBC) to help me grow in Christ and call me to ministry. Dede and I were married at WFBC and moved to the Midwest, where I served as a college pastor for four years in MN and a senior pastor for 17 years in WI. We moved back to GA, and I have been the Pastor of Discipleship at WFBC for almost four years.
Over a year ago, Pastor Carlos casted a vision for WFBC helping to plant 20 churches by the year 2020. God used that vision to stir something in my spirit. I began to pray about whether God was leading me to help see this happen.
A few months later Carlos took out a napkin during one of our pastors’ meetings. He drew a circle representing the Athens’ loop. He said, “Wouldn’t it be something if we could see a church planted at every exit of the loop?” Soon after this comment, Cornerstone Church of God, located at the Lexington Rd. exit of the loop, went up for sale. We began to explore this facility, and God has miraculously provided it as the location for the church plant. I now believe God led me back to the south to pastor Living Hope Church.
I invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a part of this church plant. Athens-Clarke County is full of needs, and we are just five minutes from UGA. Furthermore, five counties comprise a 5-mile radius of our location. Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Luke 10:2).
