DISCIPLESHIP AT LIVING HOPE
We desire to be a church full of disciple-making disciples who are passionate about not only evangelizing the lost, but also walking with new believers through the early stages of their faith and beyond. To that end, we offer a variety of discipleship groups that meet throughout the year on either a short- or long-term basis. Some meet on the Living Hope campus while others meet in homes or other locations throughout Athens and the surrounding areas.
The Men’s Ministry offers school-age boys and men in all stages of life the opportunity to grow in biblical manhood, godly male community, and leadership skills through our Noblemen and Ironman groups. Noblemen groups meet on a short-term basis, some for as few as 8 weeks and others for up to 14, whereas Ironman groups meet continuously throughout the year. We also offer a Sunday morning men’s Bible study on the Living Hope Church campus. Contact Dustin Butler at dwbutler0482@gmail.com for more information.
Our Women of Courage women’s group meets for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship on Sunday mornings on the Living Hope Church campus. Women of Courage also hosts a number of events, both on campus and off, at various times throughout the year. Women of all ages are welcome to join at any time. The Women of Courage: College Group meets over a complimentary lunch throughout the academic year on the Living Hope campus. Contact Angela Patterson at angelapatterson.ministry@gmail.com for more information.
Home Groups are an intentional gathering of people who meet regularly in homes throughout our community. These gatherings are equipped to help people be Word-rooted and Spirit-empowered while connecting with others. Living Hope Home Groups have been designed to be a safe and healthy environment where people support each other, pray for each other, and grow together in their faith while protecting each other in their friendships. God has designed us for relationships, and we believe it is through the connections made in Home Groups that God will help us grow deeper in community. Contact Pastor Shanon Hayes at shanonhayes4@gmail.com for more information.
On Wednesday nights throughout the spring and fall, we offer believers at all stages of spiritual maturity the opportunity to deep-dive into various spiritual topics through our Growth Groups. Each lineup of Growth Groups is different, though some groups are offered on a recurring basis. Some offer overviews of whole books of the Bible, while others discuss challenging but rich subjects such as prophecy, hearing the voice of God, godly marriage and parenting, biblical financial stewardship, the person and power of the Holy Spirit, evangelism strategies, and more! All Growth Groups meet on the Living Hope Church campus on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Contact Pastor David Holt at davidholt08@gmail.com for more information.
Likewise, we offer believers at all stages of spiritual maturity the opportunity to be discipled one-on-one by a fellow brother or sister in Christ. If you are interested in receiving one-on-one discipleship, download the Living Hope Church app, click the Register button, and fill out the form under DISCIPLESHIP: Disciple and/or be discipled. We would love to discuss it with you!
The heart of our discipleship ministry is the Grow Up discipleship modules offered on Wednesday nights each spring and fall. Using material from Pastor David Holt’s Grow Up: A Discipleship Manual for Following Jesus, each of the three modules represents a different phase of spiritual maturity — childhood, adolescence, and adulthood — and offers believers the information most essential to each stage of growth. Module 1, for example, covers topics like the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the importance of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, the fatherhood of God, and the amazing indwelling Holy Spirit. Module 2 covers spiritual warfare, the importance of forgiving others and overcoming the difficulties in one’s past, the power of praise and worship, and more! Finally, Module 3 challenges believers with complex subjects like evangelism, discipleship, biblical sexuality, and the sovereignty, grace, and holiness of God. We encourage all members and regular attendants of Living Hope Church to complete all three modules regardless of how long they’ve been following Jesus. There is always more to learn, and one of the best parts of attending a discipleship group is that we have the opportunity to learn from not only the material, but also each other.
The Grow Up discipleship modules are regularly featured in our lineup of spring and fall Wednesday Night Growth Groups, which meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on the Living Hope Church campus. Children and Youth Ministries meet at the same time, so there is something for the whole family!
